Warriors: Lightningstar's Choice: Chapter 1

"Watch out!" Was the first thing Lightningkit heard as a small weight landed on his back He let out shriek and bounced back. "Sorry!"

A black she-kit meowed picking up the thing on his back, what was clearly a moss ball. My sister! Hollykit! Lightningkit straightly realized. He picked himself up and just sighed. "It's fine, Hollykit. Just... make sure it doesn't happen again..."

Hollykit smiled. "All's good, right?" Lightningkit just passed her rolling his eyes.

He started walking. "Hey! Where's our mother?" He noticed his mother was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, something pinned his tail to the ground. "Ahh!"

Lightningkit managed to get his tail away before face planting into the ground. Two laughs sounded behind him. "I so got you like a hawk!"

Shaking the dirt off his face, he saw a brown tom approach him. "Sorry, little brother, but that was funny." His brother, Hawk-kit giggled with glee.

"In your dreams!" Lightningkit hissed before stalking away.

"As I was saying, where is our mother?" He wondered. The other two exchanged glances. "She went outside of the Nursery." A orange tom went over to the siblings.

"I'm Flarekit. I'm about to become a apprentice with my brother, Tigerkit." He introduced himself.

"Flarekit! Wait up Mousebrain!" A lean and muscular small dark brown tabby growled. That must be Tigerkit Lightningkit figured.

A white she-kit followed up. She seemed confused about the two bickering kits. "Icedkit is deaf. Deaf means she can't hear." Flarekit ignored Tigerkits spitting.

"But how will she become a warrior?" Hollykit asked the orange-flamed kit. "That's the thing. It's only a matter of time before they decide whether she becomes a apprentice or not." He answered.

"Hey! Tigerkit! Want to come and meet the other apprentices?" A voice called from the entrance.

Tigerkit pricked his ears. "Sure, Snowpaw! See all you slowpokes later!" He teased before exiting.

Flarekit muttered something under his breath before stalking out following them. Hawk-kit hopped up to the brambles of the nursery making his head poke out. Turning his head, he threw the Moss Ball at Hollykit. "Hey!" She shrieked bouncing back in surprise.

Lightningkit smirked and pushed the moss ball back to Hawk-kit with his hind-legs. The ball hit Hawk-kit's legs making him shake a bit. "Heh. Nice try, but you need more strength than your hind legs."

Lightningkit didn't bother speaking back as he ducked his head when the ball of moss went right over him. About to pick it up, Hollykit pushed him out of the way.

Her black head poked under the ball and went straight into the air and caused Hawk-kit to jump and grab it with his jaw. He landed on his paws and hid the moss ball under his legs. Lightningkit forced himself under his brother and it rolled out quickly.

The three tried running for it until his sister bumped into a gray cat. "Kits!" She turned her head, and anger in her eyes. "Sorry Dovewing. We were just playing with the moss ball." Hollykit apologized.

Dovewing rolled her eyes and curled back to sleep.

Icedkit soon approached the moss ball and raced out of the nursery with it in her mouth. "Bummer." Hawk-kit groaned sitting down.

"Now what? We can't leave until our mother gets back, and now basically the only other option we had is gone." Lightningkit sighed his blue eyes showing how bored he was.

His mind rolled with thoughts, but couldn't think of anything. His sister and brother just went over to they're nests.

"Were going to sleep until Cinderheart gets back." Hawk-kit mewed.

"I'll keep watch." Lightningkit volunteered. His head turned and looked at the nursery entrance. Alright, Lightningkit. Here we go...

It seemed ages until a gray tabby she-cat approached him. "Oh! Lightningkit! I didn't realize you were awake!" Lightningkit realized who it was. "Cinderheart? Mother?"

"Yes, my brave kit. Now wheres-"

"Mother!" "Cinderheart!" His siblings ran to Cinderhearts side. Cinderheart smiled and licked them all. "You all seem energetic. Except you, Lightningkit."

Hollykit looked over to her brother. "He kept watch to see when you would arrive. Like a warrior guarding camp at night."

Lightningkit felt pride rush through his veins the way his sister described him. Like a warrior guarding camp? He knew those words would never leave him. His thoughts were distracted as Cinderheart guided the kits to they're nests.

"But we just slept!" Hawk-kit complained. "It doesn't matter. It's almost dark, and tomorrow, you can officially go outside the nursery. I need you all to have your strength." They're mother explained.

Lightningkit for once agreed. He yawned from having to wait for sleep. He curled up near his mother and tucked his tail to touch his nose. "Good night, everyone." He let one more meow before drifting off to sleep.

Lightningkits glanced at the beautiful landscape of mountains. He glanced around. He soon noticed a cave. Maybe there! He sprinted for the cave until something approached in front of him. A mouse! Lightningkit sprang for it until it jumped right on his back and stayed there, pushing him.

His eyes flickered open and noticed the pushing didn't go away. To his side, his sister was poking him with her paw. "What are you-" "Shh!!! We don't want to wake the queens!" Hawk-kit interrupted him with a whisper voice.

"Let's go."

"What?"

"Outside. Into Camp." Hollykit meowed. Before he could protest, his siblings turned and crept outside. "Hey! Wait for me!" Lightningkit scrambled to his paws before running to Hollykit and Hawk-kit.

They all glanced around at the dark and quiet area. "Uh... Whats going on?" Hollykit had fear in her voice as her black pelt blended into the night.

Hawk-kit went over to a step ledge. "Whats over there?" Lightningkit glanced over to it. The huge thing made him feel like he was a mouse.

They all looked around for a bit, trying to find everything before a warrior realizes they weren't supposed to be out. "Ugh! I'm bored! Why don't we get out of camp?" Hawk-kit suggested.

Hollykit gave out a squeak of agreement. "Yes! Are you coming Lightningkit? Or are you too scared?" She taunted.

"I'm not scared! I bet you two a piece of mice we can make it back without anyone noticing." He snickered.

The three agreed. They all went over to the entrance and stumbled out one by one. Inside the forest they huddled together at every sound. Lightningkit forced himself to speak. "Do you think were far from camp?"

"No. At least, not very far." Hawk-kit responded.

They continued for a bit more. "Ew! Do you smell that?" Hollykit exclaimed covering her nose with a paw.

"That smells disgusting!" Lightningkit chimed in doing the same. Hawk-kit followed with no reply.

The group huddled closer than before. The smell seemed to be approaching them. Lightningkit shivered. What was coming? Were one of they're Clanmate's following them. Suddenly, a stick cracked and the siblings let out a shriek and took off dashing. "Run for your lives back to camp!" Lightningkit exclaimed. But he realized something. "Where is camp?"

They put a halt to they're pawsteps. "I hate to say this, but were lost." Hollykit wailed with fear.

"What are we going to-" Hawk-kit was interrupted as pawsteps came closer and closer.

Lightningkit felt a pang of guilt in his bellly Oh, I should've made sure they didn't go out! Eventually, the thing popped out. It had two long ears and it glowed silver in the moonlight. In fact, it was smaller then all of them.

"Huh? Is that prey?" Lightningkit asked. The rabbit raised it's head and ran away. "Wait! Come back!"

Hollykit just hit him with her tail. "It's prey, mouse-brain. Not a cat from our Clan." She corrected him.

Lightningkit just shrugged and then realized they still weren't back in camp. "Oh well, we need to find-" He froze in his sentence as a barking noise approached.

A big orange-and-white tom popped out. It was huge! Way over sized to be a cat. "I think that's a..." Hawk-kit trailed off. "FOX!" The trio shouted.

The fox raised a paw. The claws came down about to hit them, but the hit never came.

When his eyes went opened, a gray-and-white she-cat was standing in front of them, but not big enough to be full-grown. "If you want these kits, your going through me first." She taunted.

Then the she-cat used a paw and sliced forward on the foxes head before she whipped around it. The fox turned with her and grabbed her tail and threw the she-cat and landed. "Is she..." Hawk-kit began, unable to finish. The fox tried biting her throat, but the she ran her claws over the foxes throat and it landed not moving a bone. The she-cat rose to her paws, then glanced at the apprentices anger in her eyes. "Thank you for saving us!" Hollykit squeaked.

The she-cat just hissed in they're faces. "Bramblestar-no one will be happy to see kits out of camp. No come on. Let's go." She turned her back and beckoned her tail for them to follow.

The trio exchanged glances. "Uh... sorry? By the way, you never introduced your name." Lightningkit started his paws up.

"Amberpaw. Almost a ThunderClan warrior." Amberpaw still had a tone of frustration in her voice but kept on going.

As the kept on going, a hiss was heard through the bushes, three cats came out. The first was a reddish tabby tom. The second was a golden-brown tabby tom. And the third was a ginger she-cat. "Foxleap, Thornclaw, Cherrytail. Let me explain." Amberpaw said.

They're gazes rested on not Amberpaw, but the siblings. Lightningkit didn't dare speak in front of full grown warriors. She explained about how the fox attacked and she did hurt her back a bit and got a scar near her right ear, but rather than that no bad injuries. "Where is the fox?" Cherrytail asked.

"I think it didn't die since I knew we could get away fast enough." Amberpaw meowed. "We should get back to camp, now." Foxleap told them.

He instantly leaned down to pick up Hollykits scruff. Thornclaw picked up Hawk-kit and Cherrytail picked up Hawk-kit. They traveled back to camp and by now they all could tell some of them were trying to find the siblings. "There over there, Cinderheart!" A young white tom raced over to the group.

Amberpaw nudged herself forward and approached the group that crowded around them. She explained once again of what happened. "Wait, did I mention I was following them?" She smirked.

"But your supposed to get them!" A dark ginger she-cat growled. "I know. But I knew they would split apart, and I'd rather have them all at once. That would also risk the chance of one dying." Amberpaw still had her fur lay flat.

Cinderheart ran over to the siblings, meanwhile. "I was so worried! What were you thinking?" He calm voice turned to anger.

"Sorry..." Lightningkit apologized. "As punishment, you won't leave the nursery for the next couple of moons." A brown tabby tom walked over starring at the young kits." "Alright, Bramblestar." Cinderheart nodded.

The trio sadly padded over to the nursery tired and scared. "Why did I let you guys go out there?" Hawk-kit asked himself.

"You were the one with the idea!" Hollykit ran up to his face. "No, blame me. I shouldn't have let you go out. I should've stopped you when I could've." Lightningkit admitted and curled up into a ball. "See you later."

He closed his eyes knowing that this was just the beginning of his journey to being a warrior.
